GlobalFind can search through text files for specified text and display the results in a list, your search queries are saved in case you need to perform the same search again. There is also a search & replace text option which can replace across files (use with caution).

Text search with Boolean and NEAR or proximity operators. ANSI/OEM search and conversion on the fly which is not unimportant since there is a lot of old DOS text around and umlauts and accents may give problems here. Sets of found files can be saved. There is a TXT/RTF editor which understands OLE and has recursive search and replace. You can see HTM files without the HTM codes, but WanyWord is NOT an HTM editor. There are Danish, English and Brazilian versions.

TextExtract is a small but powerful program that scans one or more files for text strings, extracts them and saves them into a separate file. Useful if, say, you have a corrupted word processor file, or if you just want to see what text, if any, is inside a file. Configurable extraction. Lovely interface. Very straightforward to use. TextExtract is free to use from its GUI (ie. the buttons and that) and shareware if you use it from its command-line interface.

FileSearcher is a program that searches files for specific data. It will either search one file or an entire folder for data entered by the user. FileSearcher will search all files regardless of type. Search is NOT case sensitive and any file found containing the search criteria can be opened by double clicking on it.

Xteq X-Find is a great program to find what you are looking for. Simply select where and what it should search and press "Go"; that's all you need to do. You can even specify a text that it should find inside the files. After the requested files have been found, select one and X-Find will display it in the same window (no extra program is started). X-Find is also able to highlight the searched text when viewing the file.
