TinySpell is a small utility that allows you to easily and quickly check the spelling of a single word from ANY application. Copy the word to the clipboard and look at the TinySpell icon, if it is yellow the word is misspelled, if it is white the word is spelled correctly. Click the TinySpell icon to pop up a list of suggested replacement words. It can also monitor your typing on the fly. TinySpell installs itself in the system tray for easy access. It comes with an American-English dictionary containing more than 110,000 words.

GlobalSpellChecker is a tool for checking the spelling or meaning of words from any application using Microsoft Word. It displays the meaning or spelling suggestion in a non-disturbing way so that you do not have to shift from the application you are working in. You can copy the word to be checked to the Clipboard by pressing Ctrl+C and invoke GlobalSpellChecker using hotkey Ctrl+Alt+S. Unlike other programs in this category, GlobalSpellchecker is loaded in memory only when called and exits after spelling check is complete. Requires Microsoft Word '97 & up.

Important: Spell Checker is designed for Windows 3.1; though it will work on many Win95 and NT programs it was not designed for those platforms. We decided to list this application because it is really hard to find a free program with similar features. An invaluable add-on for any text-based application. Custom dictionaries can be made read-only. Custom dictionaries are fully editable and searchable. Standard text, Rich Text and HTML clipboard formats supported. Commands to undo and ignore all. A very fast auto suggest feature. Detects and offers to delete repeated words.
