NikPad is a free text editor replacement for NotePad with all the old features of NotePad and a whole lot more. NikPad provides a temporary clipboard where you can store any number of entries and also lets you manage them very easily. NikPad also provides a small encryption tool, a text to speech engine (Requires xvoice.dll which can be downloaded from the net) and auto save and a whole lot more than NotePad offers.

The original Notepad shipped with Windows is probably the handiest program of all times, small, fast, without frills. Notepad2 tries to follow this principle, it's a small, fast and free text editor with syntax highlighting for HTML and other common languages.

QuickEdit ism a compact, multiple-document text editor for Windows that has an easy-to-use interface with additional features that are not present in Microsoft's Notepad editor, such as MDI editing, F5 run program, file reopening and change font.

It can convert Text to MP3 for a whole book in one run, splitting off chapters into well named MP3 files. You can fit huge files into it like the whole Bible for instance, (In fact it has a filter you can turn on that skips over verse numbers to let you hear it like a story.)

"SubPad" is a lightweight notepad clone with all of the features of Windows notepad, with just a few extras added. The main purpose was to make another notepad, but with faster find/replace features and a "most recent documents". The find/replace is written in Assembler code, and it is perhaps the fastest out there. Other minor convenient features that have been added, without adding too much bloat are: close on ESC, roll-up caption bar, toggle off/on URL highlighting, column selection mode and stay on top.

Zzzbla's TreePad is a sophisticated note pad that features a dynamic hierarchical set of pages and a richtext editor capable of changing text styles, colors, bullets, indentation and more. CopyWriter is designed to operate as a lightweight general purpose editor, it's a relatively small program with both word processing and editing capabilities. CopyWriter tries to fill the gap between basic text editors and mid-range word processors, it was initially designed for writing short stories and notes, but it is also an excellent tool for editing HTML or other text based files. CopyWriter functionality can be extended by downloading extra "utilities" such as "Calendar"; "Export to HTML"; "HTML Character Map"; and more.

"Xint" (pronounced "zint") is an alternative to Windows notepad, with dozens of useful functions. The focus is on efficiency and performance and thus there are no toolbars, redundant dialogs, or other uneccesary components. Most of the functions are accessible via hotkeys, and extra formatting options are also availible through a convenient floating menu (screenshot) that is activated also via hotkeys or the system menu to wherever your cursor happens to be. Make extracting html content from a textfile, or alternately, saving only the html easy. Turn tab space delimited text files into comma delimited files, or, vice-a-versa. xint does the standard find and replace much quicker then with regular notepad. Another thing that is of great convenience, is "Twofish" encryption. Use "Twofish", a military-strength 160-bit encryption algoritm to securely hide sensitive data. xint is a fairly resource-friendly application which comes with an uninstaller.

Haxial TextEdit is a simple, fast and free text editor that edits plain text files. It includes a Find/Replace function, can alphabetically sort lines of text, has a menu for quick access to your favorite documents and the user interface is highly customizable. Note that plain text files do not support fancy formatting features, or font styles etc, and thus neither does TextEdit because the purpose of TextEdit is only to edit PLAIN text files.

Notepad replacement, very small in size, doesn't require any extra runtime dlls, very fast and powerful. Shalom Txt is a text editor, meant for editing flat text files with no formatting. I've tried to make a straightforward editor with all the standard functions including printing, print preview, popup menu, toolbar, find and replace, recent files list etc. And then added some extras (see below image). I know there are a billion free text editors. So why this one? Well, I've been working on the perfect editor for some years and one day I needed a break from another project and decided to put together a small editor with the basic architecture and some of the string manipulating tools I've developed for my own use. The perfect editor will have to wait a bit longer.

A text editor which was only designed to replace original Windows95 Notepad. It is small and simple. It has several useful features: open multiple documents of any size, fonts management for display and printer, page setup, search and replace etc. NewPad remembers settings (fonts, windows size and positions) since last session. It does not provide any splash screens, help menus (all necessary help topics are displayed in a status bar) and standard tool bar. No special installation required.

This editor is designed for people who find notepad's limitations irritating, but don't want a "mega-package" that will do everything but make the tea!

Like notepad this program supports reading/writing of any file type. But it also supports viewing/editing of formatted texts stored in RTF format, like MS Word does.
