| CERN
httpd 3.0a |
The CERN httpd (also known as
W3C httpd) is a generic public domain full-featured hypertext
server which can be used as a regular HTTP server. The server
is typically running on port 80 to serve hypertext and other documents
but it can also serve as a proxy -- a server on a firewall machine
-- that provides access for people inside a firewall to the outside
world. When running as proxy httpd may be configured to do caching
of documents resulting in faster response times. |

Selected files and directories can easily be hidden or blocked. |
| Jigsaw
2.2.2 |
Jigsaw is W3C's leading-edge
Web server platform, providing a sample HTTP 1.1 implementation
and a variety of other features on top of an advanced architecture
implemented in Java. The server uses an object-oriented approach

requests, making it both more efficient and easily extensible.
The design of the Jigsaw server puts the emphasis on flexibility
and extensibility, while still providing a usable Web server.

| thttpd
2.16 |
thttpd is a simple, small, portable,
fast, and secure HTTP server. It handles only the minimum necessary
to implement HTTP/1.1. Well, maybe a little more than the minimum.
It also has a very small run-time size, since it does not fork
and is very careful about memory allocation. It compiles cleanly
on most any Unix-like OS, specifically including FreeBSD, SunOS
4, Solaris 2, BSD/OS, Linux, OSF. In typical use it's about as
fast as the best full-featured servers (Apache, NCSA, Netscape).
Under extreme load it's much faster. It goes to great lengths
to protect the web server machine against attacks and breakins
from other sites. |
