You create a container file on an existing hard drive and assign a specific password, it can then only be accessed with that password otherwise the files on the virtual drive are totally inaccessible. Once the password is entered correctly and the drive is mounted, the new virtual drive can be used as a normal drive, files can be saved to it and opened from it.

The Secrets-Editor is a tool that saves text documents in an encrypted form (passphrase encryption with MD5 and DES, using the salt-and-vinegar method). It provides common functionality like copy 'n' paste, undo/redo, drag 'n' drop, and a search tool. Cryptonite is a little program that will take all keyboard characters typed into the encrypter box and turn your input into scrambled encrypted output.
